Tuning the 200+ strings in your piano so your instrument expresses its clearest voice. Built around ‘concert pitch’ (A440hz), each string is tuned ideally so that every note, interval, and chord fully sings in solo and ensemble playing. On average, a tuning will take an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and a half, if that piano has been serviced on a regular basis. If the piano has been left for a number of years, our Pitch Raise service is likely (though not always) needed to set it straight again. Every piano has a unique voice and a well-tempered set of strings produces an unmistakably clear and rich sound.

When your piano has not been tuned for over a year and humidity changes have swept through the instrument, it has likely gone flat across the board. Fortunately, this can be remedied with a Pitch Raise service, bringing all 200+ strings back up to concert pitch and sounding as fresh as a brand new tuning. Pitch Raising is a common procedure yet vital to keep your piano sounding its best when its pitch has waned over a year (or more) of no tuning.

As your piano is played, its interacting parts will very gradually go out of regulation. The regulation process adjusts these components to a factory-reset action. Because use, age, and climatic conditions vary between households, so too does the type and degree of regulation each piano periodically requires. Regulation and other service recommendations are complementary in the assessment performed during your first tuning with us.
Hammers can be modified between hard and soft, filed to remove deep cuts and grooves, and adjusted as per the pianist’s preference on striking a rich and colourful sound. The player’s input is thus important to determine the tone, colour, feel, and dynamic range they want out of their instrument. Well-voiced hammers reflect one’s playing style and the piano’s unique voice to ensure the ideal sound with every key press.
Like all things, pianos are vulnerable to damage and degradation across the mechanisms and cabinetry that make up its distinct sound. Upkeep of these components is vital to maintain a piano’s health and so small and large repairs are sometimes necessary to continue making music. We offer consultation and present options for repair and restoration projects of all sizes.
